After a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19, Moredun are delighted to announce that applications for The Moredun Foundation Award are open to members once again for the 2022-2023 period, with up to £2000 available per Award.

The Moredun Foundation Award (TMF Award) recognises the value of education, collaboration, experience, and travel in improving knowledge of livestock health and welfare. As part of its charitable activities, the Moredun Foundation provides its members with the chance to pursue a short-term project supporting personal development and encourages innovative and diverse contributions to the Foundation’s mission to prevent and control infectious diseases of livestock.

Initially launched as the Moredun Foundation Scholarship in 2012, the TMF Award scheme has been able to support individuals in fulfilling a wide variety of projects and activities. It is open to a wide variety of project proposals, including learning from farming practices in another country, running a small scientific project or developing learning tools. In return, Award winners are expected to write up their experiences in a 2000 word written report to help inspire others in the industry.

Previous Award winners have used the funding in a variety of different ways. In 2017, Rosie Herrington, a Veterinary Medicine student from the University of Edinburgh, attended the World Health Assembly in Geneva.

She says: “This experience opened my eyes to the challenges involved in providing food security for all. It has further inspired me to follow a career in this area to hopefully try to help solve some of these challenges.”

Other projects have involved a study visit to New Zealand to find out more about TB testing in farmed deer and attending the Summer Dairy Institute course at Cornell University in USA.

Up to £2,000 is available per Award, and you must hold membership to the Moredun Foundation to apply. This can be done via the website at https://moredun.org.uk/membership

The closing date for applications is 30th June 2022.
