Phillipa Page became the new President of the Sheep Veterinary Society during the Autumn Conference held in Llandrindod Wells from 22nd – 24th September 2025. Phillipa takes over the role from Kim Hamer who becomes Senior Vice President as Joe Henry retires from the committee. Joining the officials is new Junior Vice President Jonathan Hobbs.

Phillipa grew up in a former mill town, Colne in Lancashire and has no previous family links to farming.   She qualified as veterinary surgeon from The University of Liverpool, following a previous BSc degree in Animal Production Science at the University of Leeds. She is currently a resident of the European College of Small Ruminant Health Management (ECSRHM). Phillipa is also a sheep farmer as a tenant with her family including two sporty boys.

She spent 12 years working in clinical practice, including 2 years mixed practice in Neath South Wales, followed by 8 years in large animal veterinary practice in Gloucestershire. Phillipa worked in predominately dairy practice in Gloucestershire but set up a successful flock health club and developed the sheep side of the business.  During this time, she co-authored ‘Sheep Keeping’ as part of The Professional Smallholders Series, with Kim Hamer.

Phillipa currently works as a sheep veterinary consultant at Flock Health Ltd which involves flock health consultancy, work with levy bodies, pharmaceutical companies and education farming fund organisations. This involves farmer discussion groups and on farm project work.  She is part of the Pathway co design group in England and a mentor for the AHIC pilot project in Wales.

Phillipa also works part time for NADIS as the sheep lead vet on online health planning development, promotion of the parasite forecasts and blowfly alert maps and sheep related online information and content.

The Sheep Veterinary Society brings together vets, advisers and flock owners from all over the United Kingdom, Europe and the wider world who are interested in the welfare and production of sheep. The Society is a forum for education and discussion on all matters relating to sheep health and welfare. It also builds strong links with sheep farmers through the National Sheep Association.

Members of the Society and Committee are actively involved in many different groups and schemes helping to forge ideas and policies that will have a direct impact upon the future of the sheep farming industry. Many vets who are members of the society are also sheep farmers themselves which brings a wealth of experience and practical knowledge to the society
