  • It is the most important international meeting in this sector, and it is taking place for the first time in Spain: more than 300 communications are programmed, and 70 conferences will be given in 3 parallel streams.
  • In parallel, a fourth thematic stream will hold the European College for Small Ruminant Health Management’s annual congress and the XLVI National Congress and XXII International Congress of the Sociedad Española de Ovinotecnia y Caprinotecnia (SEOC), which organises the event.
  • Top experts from 45 nationalities and 4 different continents, mainly from the European Union but also North and South America, Oceania and Africa, are expected to arrive.

The celebration of the 10th ISVC, which is arriving in Spain to be held in Seville from 6 to 10 March, will turn the city of Seville into the epicentre of the sheep sector. A full programme of over 300 communications and more than 70 presentations will be followed by most than 600 international experts, with the presence of the most prestigious technicians in sheep production and health from 45 countries, especially from Australia, the USA, Ireland, Argentina, Mexico, Greece and of course, Spain. The Hotel Barceló Sevilla Renacimiento of the capital of Seville will host from 6 to 10 of March the 10th International Sheep Veterinary Congress 2023, the most important event in the sheep sector worldwide to be held for the first time in Spain, organised by the Spanish Society for sheep and goat production (SEOC).

The ISVC comes to Seville after six years of absence due to the pandemic. In the previous edition held in Harrogate (UK) in 2017, it was decided that Spain would host this important meeting in 2021, but the circumstances of the pandemic forced it to be postponed until this coming March when it will finally be held. The expectation for this event is specified by the hundreds of international experts who have already confirmed that they will be attending from all four continents. Their profile covers the most important aspects related to sheep health and production: researchers, clinical veterinarians, advisors, pathologists…

The organisation has already finalised the scientific programme, which will have more than 300 communications and more than 70 presentations. In fact, during the five days of the World Sheep Congress, there will be three halls that will be permanently operating through thematic blocks, such as sustainability, global threats, emerging diseases and reduction of antibiotics. In addition, in parallel and the fourth thematic room of the Congress, the annual congress of the European College for Small Ruminant Health Management will be held on Monday (6th of March), Tuesday and Wednesday, while on Thursday and Friday, the XLVI National Congress and XXII International Congress of the Spanish Society for sheep and goat production (SEOC) will take over, with their respective programmes of papers and communications.

Social programme
The organisation of the World Sheep Congress has also published the social programme that will take place throughout the week of the event, with various thematic dinners and cultural activities in Seville and Jerez de la Frontera, as well as technical tours to visit reference farms all over Spain, both before and after the week of the congress.

What is SEOC?
SEOC, with around 350 members, is a scientific society of professionals linked to the sheep and goat sector, which brings together veterinarians, agronomists, agricultural engineers, farmers and professionals from the academic and business worlds, with investigators in all areas linked to the improvement of production, both meat and dairy. The main objectives of this association – which, after 44 years of history, is an authorised voice in this sector – are the study and research of small ruminants, as well as the scientific dissemination of its results, which is carried out through annual traveling congresses such as the present one, as well as training activities.
