Bluetongue virus technical webinar for vets (Session 2)

Join us to hear from a panel of experts who will provide an update on bluetongue and the current BTV-3 strain that has been confirmed in cases in cows and sheep in Kent and Norfolk. The webinar offers vet practitioners and other stakeholders valuable technical information about BTV-3 that will help answer farmers’ questions.
Agenda
- Introduction from Mandy Nevel, Head of Animal Health & Welfare, AHDB
- 6.05 – 6.15 Defra/APHA will provide an update on the current situation
- 6.15-6.45 Peter Mertens (Professor of Virology, School of Veterinary Medicine and Science, University of Nottingham) and Christopher Sanders (Research Fellow in Veterinary Entomology from the Pirbright Institute) will talk about the midge lifecycle and how their behaviour allows them to transmit BTV to ruminants, the impact of temperature on BTV transmission and other factors.
- 6.45-6.55 Rudolf Reichel from APHA will finish up with a short SBV piece.
There will be an opportunity to ask questions of the speakers.
A series of webinars will be held fortnightly on Wednesdays at 6pm to provide live updates and presentations from industry experts. If you are unable to attend the webinars, please still register for them and you will be sent a recording following the event.
