Spring conference has as its theme "Non-chemotherapeutic approaches to improving sheep health", which is particularly relevant given concerns over antibiotic and anthelmintic resistance and the current focus on sustainable use of chemotherapeutic products, both antibacterial and antiparasitic.

The conference begins on Monday with vaccines as the theme of the day. The programme will cover both the basic science of vaccines and its practical application, including talks on novel vaccines, autogenous vaccines and vaccine failure.

Tuesday focusses on genetic improvement, with talks in the morning on the basis and potential for genetic improvement and selective breeding, as well as presentations from Innovis and AHDB/Signet on some of their recent work. This will be followed by a farm visit to Innovis's main nucleus unit at Mynnydd Gorddu, to see how the principles are put into practice.

The conference concludes on Wednesday with a focus on management. The morning will open looking at how bioactive forages, grazing management, multi-species farming and an environmental approach can aid in the control of internal parasites. This will be followed by talks on neonatal lamb health, lameness, nutrition and quarantine.
